Investing Local

Intelligence Walsall is an innovative, social enterprise that provides data collection, interpretation
and intelligence services. When seeking community based researchers to gather intelligence and data for local businesses and organisations an active decision was made to ensure that these were recruited locally.

Intelligence Walsall approached Starting Point for support in their recruitment based not only on the speed at which they needed to recruit but because of the two companies’ shared aim of working to support and develop the local economy. Tasked to identify a pool of flexible researchers to support projects as they came in as well as a core group of researchers Starting Point worked to target and attract people from the local community with the necessary attributes, skills and flexibility.

In all Starting Point recruited 12 researchers who went on to attend the three day be-spoke training programme delivered by Intelligence Walsall which covered:

  • social enterprise
  • research methods and techniques
  • interactive activities
  • health and safety / risk assessments
  • equal opportunities

From the 12 recruited, 10 researchers successfully completed the training programme with two leaving having secured permanent employment elsewhere. During their time with Intelligence Walsall the researchers had the opportunity to work on a number of projects including mapping exercises, smoking research, health checks etc.
